I've always had a special affinity for country music in all it's flavors, from bluegrass to western swing and everything in between. It's not just the lyrics, which are usually direct, descriptive, humorous, and down-to-earth, but also the form and the sound of country music. Even though I'm from the Boston area, I believe country music has more to do with being from the sticks, no matter what part of the country you happen to live in. In the South country people are called rednecks because they work outside on the farm in the hot sun and their necks get all red and leathery from the burns. While that can happen up North, the term for downscale white folks that live in the country by the ocean is "swamp yankee", because the live in the marshes and swamps - the lower ground, as it were. The rich folks live on the hill in the "heights " and the poor folk live down below. Swamp Yankees live in the low country and work with their hands. Folks that work hard, live close to the poverty line on either side, and struggle to make sense of it all are the folks that like country music. This record is for these folks.
