Carmen Rodgers Bio
After releasing the critically acclaimed and sweet-sounding album Free five years ago, Carmen Rodgers, the lyrical psychologist who turns happiness and heartache into melody, is back and better than ever. The sound? Beautiful. Bitter. But this time, not so sweet. The Bitter Suite, part one of Carmen's highly anticipated sophomore album, was recently released to rave reviews worldwide. Similar to her debut album, the melodramatic EP aims to dazzle listeners with a captivating and compelling R&B, Jazz and Neo-Soul mix. Yet unlike the first album, she aims to pleasantly surprise listeners with a sound different than the expected.
"People wonder where I've been and what I've been doing... and this is it. I've been growing. I'm no longer concerned with safety when it comes to my music. I'm ready to be me. I decided to make this album as real as real can get."
Inside the Suite
Taking you on a personal journey, probably one that looks all too familiar, are songs that leave you love lost or staring in the mirror forcing some sort of resolve in your life. It is what girlfriend's talk about at Sunday brunch or in the beauty shop. It is what the fellows hear and immediately understand how the women in their lives feel. "I want people to feel my music; to think, 'She knows my story, she got into my head.' Not only do I hear it, I articulate it back into the music I make."
The Bitter Suite was written and produced entirely by Ernie G. and Carmen Rodgers. Fans and listeners can expect the second half of the two-part release called Intermission Spring 2011 featuring a duet with Anthony David and additional production by Ty Macklin (Erykah Badu, Sy Smith), S1 (Producer of Kanye West's "Power," Musiq Soulchild, Lupe Fiasco), Deonis '"Pumah" Cook and Daniel Jones. The debut singles, "It's Me" and "What Hurts You" are also now available digitally.
Graduate of Dallas Baptist University, majoring in Music & Psychology, Carmen Rodgers was born in a small town in Mississippi, inspired to sing in church and intrigued by the sounds of Blues and funk music from her uncle's juke joint. Singing background with various Indie artists, including Stax Records N'Dambi, gave her a solid foundation on the music scene. Captivating the hearts of the fans and onlookers with an intimate, eclectic and soulful performance is what she gleans from those experiences, in addition to staying true to the music; staying true to inspiring others. Owning and operating Candigirl Music with partner Michael Reimonenq of Acoustical Endeavors Entertainment has given Carmen the ability to have free range in her creativity and business decisions. This is what can be expected of Carmen Rodgers as an artist: deep soul, striking arrangements and blunt but beautiful lyrics.
