Story Behind The Song
I was drinking a few beers in the early 90's with an Executive Manger from Carrollton, GA by the name of Jim Grizzard, Sr, and when I spoke of someone being a "redneck," Jim said, "Never call a man a redneck, because their the one's bent over in the sun doing all the work!" Jim's statement stuck in my head for several years until one day while sitting in my hottub in Michigan on a Saturday morning, I came up with the melody, and went outside in the sun to write the rest of the song in about 30 minutes! My travels throughout the USA had made me realize that there are "American Rednecks" in not only the South, but all over the USA! I may be a corporate executive now, but my old "American Redneck" ways come out ever now and then, just like when I was down in the great state of Tennessee!
Song Description
"American Rednecks" describes when a man's dad told him never to call any man a "redneck," because "rednecks" are the one's bent over in the sun doin' all the work, and can be found in any part of the great USA, hense, this song is geared to market to not only the "rednecks" that do all the work, but also to the white collar workers who need to loosen up to enjoy life a little more like the great "American Rednecks"!

Lyrics
?AMERICAN REDNECKS?
WORDS & MUSIC BY
BILLY LEE COOPER
C. 94
My Daddy told me son,
Don?t call a man a redneck,
Cause he?s the one,
Bent over in the sun,
Doin? all the work,
Without a lot of perks,
Workin? for a livin?,
A proud son-of-gun.
American Rednecks,
Bent over in the sun,
American Rednecks,
They?re a proud son-of-gun,
Yes I am an American Redneck,
Just workin? hard and havin? fun,
American Rednecks,
Makin? sure the work is done.
Get up every mornin?,
When the alarm clock rings,
Go into the kitchen,
And hear the coffee pot sing,
Get on my Levis,
My favorite tank top,
Head out to my pick-up,
Just wishin? for luck.
American Rednecks, Bent over in the sun,
American Rednecks,
They?re a proud son-of-gun,
Yes I am an American Redneck,
Just workin? hard and havin? fun,
American Redneck,
Makin? sure the work is done.
From East Arkana,
To the Texas line,
From Michigan,
And the Caroline?s,
From West L.A.,
To FLA,
From Georgia, Tennessee,
And anywhere you wanta be.
We are American Rednecks,
Bent over in the sun,
We are American Rednecks,
We?re proud son-of-guns,
We are American Rednecks,
Workin? hard and havin? fun,
We?re American Rednecks,
Makin? sure the work is done.
Head out for the weekend,
It?s time to spend my pay,
It?s better to give,
Than to receive anyway,
Havin? done my work,
It?s time now to play,
The blue and white collars,
Ought to do it my way.
We are American Rednecks,
Bent over in the sun,
We are American Rednecks,
We?re proud son-of-guns,
We are American Rednecks,
Workin? hard and havin? fun,
We?re American Rednecks,
Makin? sure the work is done,
We?re American Rednecks,
Makin? sure the work is done.
Let?s go now, time to go to work!
