Story Behind The Song
This came from my Love of westerns where all the hero's rode off into the sunset. I always wondered about the brave lawmen that rode into the sunset with their town as they both faded away. All ghost towns tell a story.

Lyrics
Walk These Streets Again
© Anthony Lynn Powers 2013
Verse 1
He was getting on in years
but he still wore a gun
just a small town sheriff
back when the west was young
he had his share of gun fights
the legend said he was fast
many an outlaw took a shot
for most it was their last
Chorus
He stood up to Jesse James
now he's fighting old age
and that's a battle that he can't win
he can only ask when hes gone
to bury him with his boots on
so his ghost can walk
these streets again
Verse 2
Was a time they needed him
till the railroad passed them by
some folks got gold fever
and his town slowly died
with no need for a sheriff
he laid his six guns down
he waited for the sunset
for him and his ghost town
Repeat Chorus
Bridge
a rancher found his body
remember what he'd said
he was buried on the edge of town
under a simple white marker that read
Last Chorus
I stood up to Jesse James
was taken down by old age
that's a battle that I didn't win
I can only hope now that I'm gone
you buried me with my boots on
so my ghost can walk these streets again
end line
so my ghost can walk these
streets again.
