Story Behind The Song
"Take Me Home" is Avenue K's first single, and one that had been written in its entirety years prior to the band's creation. The lyricist, Joe, wrote this song at a time of significant distress, including financial hardship, the ending of a 3+ year long relationship, the death of his grandmother, and the death of his father. Returning to "home" is a metaphor for wanting to return to a time when the waters were calmer.
Song Description
"Take Me Home" is written from the perspective of one who is experiencing significant hardship, and is longing to return to a point in life where things were easier - the metaphorical "home".

Lyrics
VERSE 1
Day break
is this real
the way I feel
heartache
this is more in this case
more than I can take
change can hurt
more than it
hurts to change
I'll never know if
you feel the same
CHORUS
Take me Home
I don't wanna
feel this way
faces change
these wounds
ache the same
I never knew
just what it meant to be lonely
and I never wanted
those days to end
take me back
back to where
I call home
VERSE 2
Mistakes
what could I've done
to feel I've won
earthquakes
how could I live
without what you'd give
sinking from this weight
on my shoulders
headaches
when will I feel sober
CHORUS
Take me Home
I don't wanna
feel this way
faces change
these wounds
ache the same
I never knew
just what it meant to be lonely
and I never wanted
those days to end
take me back
back to where
I call home
BRIDGE
all our lives that were changing
and the stories were ending
(take me home now)
and the hearts that were breaking
and the mem'ries were making
(take me back now)
all this time spent preparin'
this whole time we're pretend in'
(take me home now)
CHORUS
Take me home
I hope that you never, ever
feel this way
faces change
these wounds
ache the same
I never knew
just what it meant to be lonely
and I never wanted
those days to end
take me back
back to where
I call home
