Lyrics
Going Home
My Best friend in the service is going home today.
We fought together side by side in many different ways.
He saw the grenade before me. It's the worst pain I have known,
And now my best friend's, leaving. He is going home.
Going home. Going home. Now he's going home.
Life is hard without him. Now he's going home.
I got shot up in Kandahar, patrolling in the streets.
My new friend lost his life, pulling me behind the jeep.
One eye gone, one leg torn. The worst pain I have known.
They pinned a bronze star to my chest. But he's going home.
Going home. Going home. Now he's going home.
Life is hard with out my friend. Now he's going home.
It's been four years since my discharge, but now I still feel lost.
My drinking drove my wife away; was it worth the cost?
Can't earn my keep. I can't sleep. The nightmares haven't gone.
Maybe someday, if I have my way, I'll find my way home.
Going home. Going home. Someday I'll go home.
Life is hard without a friend. Someday I'm going home.
When you see some veterans, please give them your respect.
They did their part, with all their heart. That's all you can expect.
Let them know, they're not alone. You're standing by their side.
Tell them, "Thanks for all you did," and give their lives some pride.
Coming Home. Coming home. Some day I'll be home.
Life is hard when you're alone, so help us come on home.
