Cross Country Breeze

Story Behind The Song

A friend of mine lost her husband of 35+ years and called him her mirror soul or soulmate. She was devastated when he passed away and didn't know how to move on. I wrote this song with her in mind.

Song Description

A heartfelt and sad folk song about the loss of a soul mate, the one the singer had spent most of her life with, building a home with and now the soul mate is gone. Loneliness and despair are all that is left behind and she does not know how to move on without the soul mate. She senses them all around, especially in the cross country breeze. Picked acoustic guitar with a female lead vocal, soft piano and a low bass round out the instrumentation of this song.

Lyrics

The day was as clear as a cross country breeze
I sense you in me
I can't do anything but sit around and weep
Sometimes I still feel you
Could this breeze be you?

But I wish I had you
I used to have you
I really need you
To fill this hole, my mirror soul

Doo Doo Doo
Doo Doo Doo
Doo Doo Doo

But now you're gone and I'm-- I'm just as good as dead
You left me nothing but dread
Here in this house that we built in the sand
Now it's just empty land
Now it's just empty land

'Cause I'm here without you
So bare without you
I need to hear you
To fill this hole
Where the north winds blow

Doo Doo Doo
Doo Doo Doo
Doo Doo Doo
Doo Doo Doo
Doo Doo Doo
Doo Doo Doo
Doo Doo Doo
Doo Doo Doo
Doo Doo Doo

I do not fear to be where you are nearer to me
We could be close again
I want to have and to hold
But my heart has grown cold
I'd give up everything

To still have time
Things would be fine
You'd still be mine
But the breezes blow on by
Now you're my western sky

I have no courage to see the whole day through
You were my anchor, too
If you were here, I would hold you so tight
I'd kiss you day and night
Kiss you into the night

But the things I didn't do
I have to live with that too
These tears are all for you
I always hoped you knew
My love is only for you

The day was as clear as a cross country breeze
I know this breeze is you
