Story Behind The Song
This is one of the first songs I ever wrote. Written at a time when lots of anti-war and anti-government protests were happening. When I set out to record my musical memoirs, I convinced my children, Emily and Sean, to join me on this one. It means so much to me to have them sing on this song I wrote when I was just learning to play guitar. Bill Bentley perfectly captures the era by including the sitar!

Lyrics
Do We Need Love?
V1: Is there no place left for the truth to build upon?
Are we all bereft of the courage to speak out?
In this great nation we're ready to learn to build a foundation and earn
The right to live in a world of love
Cho: Oh, love
V2; When your neighbor says, "Please help me, my dear friend
I'm in a rut and I just can't seem to get out."
Do you turn your head and say, "I'm sorry
That's too bad but it's not my worry"
Do we need love?
Cho:
V3: The human family opens wide its arms
And pleads with you to come and enter in
Do you welcome the invitation or fight it?
Do you shake the hand or bite it?
Do we need love?
Cho:
V4: There's so much trouble and conflict in the world
We need an inner force to bring us close
It can't come from just me or just from you
It's got to be between the two
Can you give love?
Can you give love?
Cho:
