Story Behind The Song
When I saw one of my nieces after a long absence, we hugged each other and tried to one-up each other with "I love yous." Finally, I said, "Well, I loved you first," at which point we looked at each other and she astutely murmured "That's your next song, isn't it?" And it was.
When I took it into the studio, I insisted, much to Bill Bentley's dismay, that we incorporate a nee-ner section into the song to underscore the competitive nature of the number. He finally relented and even joined in with his own male banter.

Lyrics
I Loved You First
Cho: I loved you first and I love you best
I love you better than all the rest
Before you knew me you didn't have a clue
Before you even knew what love was, I loved you
V1: Who lifts you up and never lets you down?
Who can you count on in a pinch?
If this were a race, you're a solid second place
I beat you by a mile and I'm not giving an inch
Cho:
V2: It makes no sense to argue with me now
You know you're never gonna win
When it comes to being hands on you've got no legs to stand on
You might as well admit it and just give in
Cho:
