Story Behind The Song
I don't know where inspiration comes from - I've just learned to honor it and let a song work its way through me to come alive. With this song, I wondered about including the line "if history's taught us anything, it's that killing always conquers over kind" because I could imagine it might turn some listeners off. But that's how it appeared to me so I left it in. When I took the song into the studio, in addition to arranging some phenomenal background vocals and joining me in singing them, my producer suggested adding a tag section. It was one of the most challenging sections I've ever sung and took every bit of breath I had. Later, as my brother, Scott, can attest, I forgot the words to that tag while I was performing the song as a guest artist in a local church. I made up some other lyrics (as I watched my brother cover his face in embarassment). I have no idea what words came out of my mouth but, to my amazement, one of the parishioners came up to me, extolling the "inspiring message" she got from the song. I was never invited back to sing at that church but I'm happy to have reached at least one person - even if I'm not quite sure what message she heard.

Lyrics
Woman of Faith
I am a woman of faith,
Looking forward to a life that you
May only think exists in my dream
I am a woman who knows
Just enough to be dangerous
Who sees things as she hopes
Not as they seem
I am a woman in search
Of the kind of peace on earth
That can only come when fear is set aside
I am woman of faith
I believe there'll come a day
When we'll find ourselves walking in the garden side-by-side
You say I choose not to see
And I shouldn't ignore what's gone before
I'm a classic case of blind leading the blind
You tell me to look to the past
'Cause if history's taught us anything
It's that killing always conquers over kind
You warn me how I will feel
When the truth is finally revealed
That a house divided cannot stand for long
But I am woman of faith
And no matter what you say
You can't change me or convince me right is wrong
Well, there's history and philosophy
But humanity, that's what I embrace
'Cause I am a woman of faith
I believe there'll come a day
When we'll find ourselves walking in the garden of the people
With their hears and their devotion to the faithful and the freedom
Of a life and love divine
