Story Behind The Song
There is a line, about the "needle on the donkey" in this song. People have asked me, "how did you come up with that?" There's a story behind that. I was thinking, "Just how weird can I say how hot it is?", and an old joke came to mind. In the joke, Pedro is taking a siesta under a tree, with his donkey tied to the tree. A passing stranger stopped, and asked, "Hey buddy. you got the time?" Pedro raised his sombrero, and then taking two fingers lifted the donkey's balls (tail), and after hoisting them a couple times, he dropped them, and said, "It's two thirty." The stranger went on, but later returned. Same question, same action by Pedro, who then said, "It's four o'clock." Stranger said, "Hey, I gotta ask you buddy, how the hell are you telling time by that donkey's balls (tail)?" Pedro repeats the lifting, this time saying, "Oh it's easy, just pick this up, and you see that clock right over there?"
I thought about the period in the joke where you're supposed to think he's telling time with the donkey, and I thought, "Such an equipped donkey would surely have a temperature gauge!"
