Story Behind The Song
Front man Jonny was once travelling in Asia and had planned to meet a friend in New Zealand for a couple of months. After landing in Christchurch, he headed off to catch his connecting flight to Auckland when an immigration officer stopped him to ask what his plans were whilst in the country. He told them he was just visiting, seeing some of the sights, taking in the general vibe... He must have looked suspicious in his colourful harem pants, long hair and big rucksack, as he was then stopped five more times by different officers, the last of which wanted to know more.
'But what are you planning to DO here?'
'Just travel round, take in the culture, maybe play some music'
The immigration officer sucked his teeth and went away.
He came back and hour or so later and said: 'You're not coming in'
Apparently the possibility of playing some music on a tourist visa was just completely unacceptable.
After a night in a police cell (a bit over the top?), they stuck Jonny on a flight to Australia. From here, and now running out of money, it was cheaper to get home by flying to Tasmania, hitching his way round the island and flying back to the UK from the south a few days later. During this journey, he found himself at a place called the Bay Of Fires: bright blue sea, bright white sand, and bright orange rocks - absolutely stunning.
And it was here he wrote Burning Rocks.

Lyrics
I stood in the middle of those burning rocks
Surrounded by pillars of flames
I stood in the middle of those burning rocks
As the lit up that place
And the sky reflected the blaze
I walked down a dusty road
Where the stones were flecked with gold
I found it hard to try
To keep my eyes off those riches untold
The haze that was created
By the heat that weighed on down
Was so thick
That blind I walked straight into that fiery ground
That fiery ground
I stood in the middle of those burning rocks
Surrounded by pillars of flames
I stood in the middle of those burning rocks
As the lit up that place
And the sky reflected the blaze
Warmth comes to us
Unexpectedly
Takes care of us
Mysteriously
Lights the way for us
Considerately
Keeps us safe for us
Reassuringly
Warmth comes to us
Unexpectedly
Takes care of us
Mysteriously
Lights the way for us
Considerately
Keeps us safe for us
Reassuringly
Come join me in the middle of those burning rocks
Unexpectedly
Surrounded by pillars of flames
Ooo ooo oo
Come join me in the middle of those burning rocks
As they light up that place
Come join me in the middle of those burning in rocks
Unexpectedly
Surrounded by pillars of flames
Mysteriously
Come join me in the middle of those burning rocks
Reassuring me
