Story Behind The Song
Co-written with a close friend about the unexpected nature of events in life, how "surprises" come to change us without warning, and often these are magical things, like on Christmas morning.
Song Description
The word "present" has two different meanings: it means a gift, generally given on special occasions. It also means the time period right NOW, today. The song is intended to express that both those things are wonderful...the unexpected events and blessings that come our way in life, and sometimes change everything for us, but also the gift of life itself, the opportunity to make the most of what is happening for us right now. "The present's where you grow" is a key lyric.

Lyrics
The box it comes in has pretty ribbon,
But you can't see yet what you've been given/Until you lift up the box's lid.
Reach inside there and see what's hidden.
The box it comes in looks so inviting;
Anticipation is what's most exciting.
You don't know what that gift could mean/At this moment it's still unseen.
Whoa, whoa, take the time to patiently/Explore whatever's meant to be/Surprise is something we all love/
Be open to what comes.
You're bound to get a gift or two,
But that don't really mean that you
Should take these things for granted so/The present's where you grow.
The box it comes in is wrapped so brightly/To be so gifted, don't take it lightly/But go ahead now, take a look inside/Enjoy the present, enjoy the ride.
Hey, hey, take the time to cheerfully/
Explore whatever's meant to be/
Surprise is something we all love/ Be open to what comes.
You're bound to get a gift or two/ But that don't really mean that you/ Should take these things for granted so/The present's where you grow!
