Alamitos Bay

Story Behind The Song

The melody was composed as a playful use of major 7th chords and alternation between two keys a whole note apart. The title was inspired by memories of a vacation beach home visited every summer by the composer in his childhood.

Song Description

This nostalgic pastiche features piano and acoustic bass, with a light touch of drums. All light jazz and warmth and smooth water, it evokes an elegant and magical place and time. It consists of four separate musical themes: an airy, lifting opening that evokes helium balloons set aloft, the blissful, elegant main theme, a somewhat dissident middle section followed by a quiet piano solo that evokes walking down a grassy path after a rain.
