Lyrics
A wind kicked up the dust one day outside his cabin walls.
The shingles bucked, the old boards swayed, the scent of Daphne called.
Thunder made his cold skin crawl, he felt it rolling near.
A thousand horses ran so close, then quickly disappeared
Then thin as a whisper, in billows of dust, stood a beauty like none he had seen before
From the edge of his porch, he watched her so quiet, while behind him the wind blew off his front door
She was tired from running with the darkest of horses,
deep in the herd, so she'd never be found,
But her legs needed rest and her throat was dry...
And she called to him without a sound...
Love calls without making a sound.
Jumping fences since she could run... cleared most, but some left their mark.
Flowers of fur caught in barbed wire...so bright, they would burn in the dark.
At night, he watched her fitfully sleep while tracing the scars on her skin.
His fingers shook, he wanted to grip her, and choke off the wildness within.
She was tired from running with the darkest of horses,
deep in the herd, so she'd never be found,
But her legs needed rest and her throat was dry...
And she called to him without a sound...
Love calls without making a sound.
When he held out his hand, she'd come stand beside him.
Breathe on his skin, and warm him inside
He tried hard to keep her and it's sure that he loved her,
but a thousand dark horses came along for the ride
He still thinks he sees her with the darkest of horses,
He calls out to her, but he calls in vain
He looks for the prints she's left in the dust,
before they all wash away in the rain.
Love can just wash away in the rain
She returned in the Spring, silver dew on her skin,
and he knew that the thunder would take her again
