Story Behind The Song
The lyric was inspired by one of the Everly brothers, Phil who is a living legend in my co-writer, Bobbie Gallup's town of Nashville. She wanted it to go more uptempo but the lyrics suggested a lovely ballad full of nostalgia to me and so here you have it

Lyrics
He?s added a few too many pounds
Like a lotta folks his age
But to them he?s always seventeen
When he walks out on that stage
He can barely hit those high notes
His hair is turning grey
But he knows it?s all the old hits
They come to hear him play
LIFT
Cause he knows?
CHORUS:
It?s not about him
Not even those songs from way back when
It?s really all about them
And the power of those memories
To make them feel young again
He knows
It?s not about him
Fingers stiff from years of playing
And some nights his knees will ache
But he sings them back to innocence
Does whatever it takes
LIFT:
Cause he knows?
CHORUS:
It?s not about him
Not even those songs from way back when
It?s really all about them
And the power of those memories
To make them feel young again
He knows
It?s not about him
BRIDGE:
?Cause he knows his music has the power
To bring back those happier times
Before the world lost its reason
And life lost its rhyme
He?s really just a symbol to his adoring fans
That?s what he?s come to understand
LIFT:
Cause he knows?
CHORUS:
It?s not about him
Not even those songs from way back when
It?s really all about them
And the power of those memories
To make them feel young again
He knows
It?s not about him
