Story Behind The Song
This song was written in 2003, at a time when jobs were being lost in the US as major corporations moved some of their operations to other countries for reasons of taxation and profitability. I recorded the song in 2021..nothing has changed as the same issues exist 18 years later.

Lyrics
We Don't Make That Anymore
They shut 'er down today
The suits never cared
Picked up my final pay
But I wasn't near prepared
Now I'm standin' in a line
Got no gentle on my mind
And I'm just a little scared
I don't understand
Why we can't build this land
Like we've always done before
There's gonna come a time
Every one of us standin' in a line
Or knocking on another door
Trying to find a job, yeah
Trying to find a job, yeah
There's one damn thing that's sure
We don't make that anymore
I'm just a workin' man
Tryin' to give more than I take
But in some far off land
They're paid a tenth of what I used to make
They load their ships each day
Everyone of them heading our way
Now don't that take the cake
I don't understand
Why we can't build this land
Like we've always done before
There's gonna come a time
Every one of us standin' in a line
Or knocking on another door
Trying to find a job, yeah
Trying to find a job, yeah
There's one damn thing that's sure
We don't make that anymore
