Story Behind The Song
In the 1990's I was working at a job that I hated, but making VERY good money. I had a sucessful music gig on the side, and REALLY wanted to quit the job and play music full time. This dream woke me up, so I wrote it down in the middle of the night almost EXACTLY as it appears here - the only editing I did was to combine two verses into one (for length). In reality, I'm now in free-fall, (as a full-time musician) wondering if I can learn to fly, or if I'm about to dig a very deep Barker-shaped swimming pool. It's kinda freaking me out, but I wouldn't change it for the world. Please buy my CD, or I'll die. Really.
Song Description
I'm in an airplane ready to take a "beginner's jump" with the parachute ripcord attached to the plane. A motorcycle pulls up to demonstrate that not only do I not need the safety 'chute, ANY parachute is just a crutch, and the plane itself is optional. I chicken out, and the dream is over - my chance to fly is lost forever, or so it seems...

Lyrics
I dreamed that I was riding in an aeroplane.
There was a motorcycle rider behind me,
The words he spoke went straight into my brain.
He said that I could always do the same,
The way you do in dreams.
He had a helmet on, I could not see his face.
But I had no trouble understanding,
He wanted me to join him out in space.
He said that I could always leve the plane,
The way you do in dreams.
I had a ?static? ?chute that would not let me fly.
So I summoned up my courage,
And decided that I?d give free fall a try.
Nothing lost, and everything to gain,
The way it is in dreams.
Well, I guess I must have taken too much time.
He saw me changing parachutes,
And thought that I had also changed my mind.
Then we landed - instantly, it seemed.
The way it is in dreams.
Upon reflection, now it all seems clear.
He?d wanted me to fly my mind,
And act on what I?d known for all these years.
I?d failed a test of faith, or so it seems.
I hope it?s just a dream.
