Lyrics
Stars and Streams
Last night I tried to catch a star so brilliant in the sky,
I stretched my arm with all my might and grabbed as one flew by...
My fingers closed around it tight and pulled it to my side,
But when I looked I saw the light had flickered once and died...
Next day I journeyed to the stream that sparkled on its way;
I thought if I could capture some it'd cool me through the day...
So I bent down and cupped my hand to take a bit along,
But as I stared, the water ran and soon it all was gone...
Hey ho, don't you know, all creatures and all things
Are best when they are not possessed just like the stars and streams?
Then walking back while puzzled still, a maiden came my way;
With love my heart began to fill and I started to say...
"Fair lady, will you come with me and be my very own?
We'll live together happily and never be alone..."
Hey ho, don't you know, all creatures and all things
Are best when they are not possessed just like the stars and streams?
Then I recalled the things today I wanted just for me -
The beauty that would fade away unless it could be free...
So I just turned and met her eyes and saw the answer there,
As stars and streams began to shine, we started down the trail...
Hey ho, don't you know, all creatures and all things
Are best when they are not possessed just like the stars and streams?
