Story Behind The Song
2016 was a year of great change, heavy with upheaval and loss all over the world and profoundly felt by me for perhaps the first time in my life in my own country. This left me feeling overwhelmed and powerless and who likes to exist in that space alone; I for one do not.
I decided the best way to deal with my feelings was to take action by doing something I felt confident I could do well, to write a song. My hope was to connect to not only what I was feeling but what I felt many of us in the US and abroad were feeling about our current social/political climate. I wanted to rouse and inspire others to keep this fire burning, to shine bright, to join together, grow stronger, to fight for positive change and Resist any actions, policies, ideologies or people that are the antithesis of our basic rights and beyond.
Then I thought to myself, "I wrote a song"; now what? How can I make best use of this song", so I decided to use it to raise money in the hopes of unifying through not only music but with a united sense of gratitude and generosity.
Song Description
2016 F'n bummed me/so many of us out in a big way. How did we feel on that night in November? How did we feel the day after. We're frightened, frustrated, bubbling over with emotion, in dispair and so full of confusion that something had to break. So, we got up, we gathered, we organized, we spoke up and we continue to Resist! For some of us it was a wake up call and the 1st time we really dove in and got involved trying to effect big change. We must Persist, Resist and Stay awake through the revolution!

Lyrics
Resist
That night in November
We stood in disbelief
Some of us repulsed
Like witnessing a thief
It was an out of body trip from which
there seemed no relief
We fell from powerless exhaustion
Into a deep sleep
It's overwhelming
Some are frightened
We took quite a blow
It's fueled a massive awakening
A history making show
That's marching building like a storm
Of collective consciousness
And we will not let go
We will not let go of this
Resist as long as we are breathing
Resist when greed is succeeding
Resist when there is injustice
Resist when there is oppression
Our voices exist to illuminate
we must persist
Resist
Resist
The next day we were tempted
To wallow in despair
Trying to figure out
How we had gotten there
Or we could answer
the call to action
and become one tribe
Though some of us had never swum
It was time to dive
We're organizing
and uniting
Now we're feeling hope
It's fueled a massive awakening
A history making show
That's marching building like a storm
Of collective consciousness
And we will not let go
We will not let go of this
Resist as long as we are breathing
Resist when greed is succeeding
Resist when there is injustice
Resist when there is oppression
Our voices exist to illuminate
we must persist
Resist
Resist
Walls may get built but we will tear them down.
Walls may get built but we will tear them down.
Resist as long as we are breathing
Resist when greed is succeeding
Resist when there is injustice
Resist when there is oppression
Our voices exist to illuminate
we must persist
Resist
Resist
Resist
Resist
Stay awake through the revolution!
