Story Behind The Song
I just overheard someone talking and heard the words "always 17". Strictly speaking in my case it should be "always 16" but I needed the extra syllable.
Song Description
I went to a songwriter's seminar and some of the other older guys there had only ever written one song, and it was about their wife - this one's my first of many. Slow rock - solo male voice with guitar solo. Song influence - James Griffin. Guitar influence Mark Knopfler.

Lyrics
Always 17 (Words and music by Alan Gillis)
Verse 1
First time that you caught my eye
I knew I'd love you till I die
I picture in my mind the way
You looked at me that day
You were going on seventeen
And I could only dare to dream
And seventeen you took my breath away
Verse 2
First time that I heard your name
I knew my life would never be the same
That name
Means everything to me
A haunting melody
A siren call to capture me
And seventeen you stole my heart away
Bridge
Though the years roll by
It feels like yesterday
Only you can make the time stand still
We are evergreen
I know we'll never be
The kids we used to be
But in my life you're Always 17
In my life you're Always 17
Interlude
I know we'll never be
The kids we used to be
But in my life you're Always 17
In my life you're Always 17
Always 17
