Story Behind The Song
Kyanos expresses emotions that are personal and empathic, and conceptually relates Demeter's grief over the abduction of Persephone with modern-day, real-life stories of the murder of unwanted children in Taiwan who were born of women sold into sex slavery. Those who are familiar with the underground world in Taiwan know that there is a particular river to which these children, whom the mothers cannot feed or care for, and who society rejects because they were born of "prostitutes", that the children are taken to and drowned. In the myth of of Demeter in Persephone in Greek Mythology, Demeter (Persephone's divine Mother) is said to be so heart broken that she weeps a river that is a deep blue (kyanos = cyan) hue.
