Story Behind The Song
I used to know a girl named Melissa. Melissa and I met in the early summer of 99?. Instantly attracted to each other, we spent virtually every day and night of that summer together. Time passed and our feelings for each other faded? or so I thought. What I had believed to be a light-hearted casual relationship turned out to be an intense infatuation on her part. I ended it, and broke her heart. Two weeks later I regretted it and wrote this song.
Song Description
An evocative piano solo starts this pop rock cross-over piece on a curious note. When the ryhthm come in, a new dynamic takes the stage and develops effectively with the introduction of each new instrument through the verse. Tension is first heightened in the bridge with over-driven guitars and cymbal crashes and then released in the chorus with the descending vocals and harmonies. The interlude conveys an emotional departure with the key shifts and the guitar and drum breaks. The final chorus drives home the hook and the song ends with a graduated instrumental fade.
