Story Behind The Song
I don't recall where the title Rome came from but I wrote this song when I was teaching myself to play mandolin. I was playing the only 4 chords I knew on the thing and just started babbling over the top. The song's actually about Nashville but that was too hard to sing! I used to play this with my old band, Clear Blue Betty but after I went solo, I started playing on my guitar, with a new groove. It was fun to do a "remake" of it!
Song Description
The singer plans to go to "Rome" on an adventure despite all the negative things people have told her about going to the big city.

Lyrics
Well I've never been to Rome
But they say do as the Romans do if ever I should go
Be cavalier and vogue
Mysterious and unrefined, act aloof and cold
Do everything your told
They'll size you up and stare you down, keep their voices low
And I'm sure they all will know
That I'm just a silly small-town girl with a locket and a suitcase full of hope
This city shimmers like gold
And the stars they shine up from the earth and Heaven's bought and sold
All the colors bright and bold
They hypnotize behind my eyes in this life-sized kaleidoscope
I'm the keeper of me
With myself through it all
How much fun can it be?
Living life with your back against the wall
I have yet to get to Rome
And youth will fail me one fine day but when I'm gray and old
I would never want to sew
Seeds of regret and wasted life so buy me a ticket, I'm off to Rome
