Music and Lyrics by: Bill Dake 1984 ASCAP

It don't take a PHD
If you want to talk to me
The words I'd like to hear you say
You won't learn in a class on the ruins of Pompeii
It don't take sheepskin
to do what I'm thinkin'
It don't take a PHD

You won't need a Cuisinart
To get this romance to start
It won't take a microwave
To heat up that dish you'd been plannin' to save
'Cause girl if you're lookin'
For my kind of cookin'
You won't need a Cuisinart

It won't take a PHD
Or some MFP
Or a CPA from the NBA
Drive a fancy car
Be a movie star
Own some new machine
That can cook and clean
It don't take a sheepskin
To do what I'm thinkin'
It don't take a PHD

To talk to me
Can't you see?
It don't take a PHD

You've got fine credentials
The right essentials

It don't take a PHD

Beautiful piano work! Nice to hear real percussion! Well balanced production. Well done

Bill Dake's song has a little bit of something for everyone innocent playful sarcasm quirkiness love, passion, campiness, wanting, desire mixed in with a swing jazz ensemble and an interesting unpredictable vocal.Pay attention or you'll miss the fun

Nice chord changes. The section at 1:25 is especially nice.
Good horn parts, too.

Nice little swinging nightclub number. Interesting chordal motion, there is sophistication here. Coool, laid back piano. Well thought out horn chart -- synth, but expertly placed nevertheless. Bass, drums ... all parts work very well together. Appealing vocal ... there is an authenticity here, a great period type piece? '60s? '70s? This track clearly ain't this artist's first rodeo. I love this tune!

-- Hey! Waiter! Over here... Please!!

Overall, I love that this is timeless. Smooth!

friggin awesome production! Great vocals, great lyrics, great production! Love it! Very best of luck with continued musical success. best, jay

I like the groove of this song, real nice piano background

Nice intro. Nice chord changes. Catchy lyrics. Really dug the piano break around 2:10.

Nice opening chords in the intro lead into a laid back jazz rhythm. Some good jazz piano work. Definitely the best aspect of this track is the vocal performance - great vocal technique, smooth with a soulful bluesy feel. Vocal has also been recorded very well.

NOW THIS IS SOME REALLY COOL /JAZZ/--simply PUT--THE BEST!--THANK YOU--GLAD I GOT TO HEAR THIS TODAY--5 stars in my book--cheers--joe

What a cool tune. Melody and harmony all well integrated into a smooth R&B style, solid vocals. I really like the whole arrangement and the build up to the key/horns and the repetitive lines towards the end. Very well done piece of work.
