Story Behind The Song
I've made stick horses for our own kids, now grand kids , nieces and nephews. I love horses. Stick horses still are an important part of childhood for many little cowboys and cowgirls. History of the stick horse warrants a sweet song.
Song Description
The boy and his stick horse were inseparable. He grew into the world of real horses. The good heart of the boy never changed as a man. He believed in all forms of the hero animal and communication went both ways.

Lyrics
Stick Horse Trigger
w/m V.Penny Gottsche 3/15
V1- Inseparable for a few good years
the boy learned to whisper in the pony's ear
he'd nuzzle right back some good horse sense
V2- They'd have oats every morning then play all day till
now I lay me down to sleep oh Lord I pray
the pony's lead tied 'round the bedpost fence
Chorus- Stick Horse Trigger
standing watch all night
breathing soft in his ear to first daylight
dreaming he's a cowboy a'ridin' the range
on a pony all his own
Stick Horse Trigger
standing watch all night
breathing soft in his ear till first daylight
Don't know what he's saying melt away the boy's fear
words only a little cowboy could hear
V3- Now he's taming broncos no one else dares ride
learn a couple signals and they're on his side
tryin' hard to please and looking for more
Break- He'll take a devil cayuse and treat him right
Don't know what he's saying melts away the fright
Pat him on the neck, breath soft in his ear
Chorus- Stick Horse Trigger
standing watch all night
breathing soft in his ear to first daylight
dreaming he's a cowboy a'ridin' the range
on a pony all his own
Stick Horse Trigger
standing watch all night
breathing soft in his ear till first daylight
Don't know what he's saying melt away the boy's fear
words only a little cowboy could hear
V3- Now his boy has a pony and they play all day
till now I lay me down to sleep oh Lord I pray
the pony's lead tied 'round the bedpost fence
