Story Behind The Song
After wondering for a couple years of the meaning of the gifts I asked our dairy farmer pastor. He brought me an old book with a page marked where I found the long held belief of the meaning of gold frankincense and myrrh.
Song Description
The news traveled fast. Heaven and earth rejoiced. The wisemen loaded their animals, probably camels, with what they needed, plus each carried a special gift for Jesus. The "Star of Bethlehem" shone bright and they followed it. How many have wondered why they chose these gifts, no one knows. This simple song with cello accompaniment to the piano answers that question. Gold was given to royalty and kings. Jesus was a king. Priests burned frankincense and swayed the containers spreading the fragrant smoke. Jesus was a priest. Myrrh was used in embalming the dead. Jesus' suffering and death was part of God's plan of salvation for sinful humanity.

Lyrics
Three Little Gifts w/m Penny Gottsche bpm60 2:44
V1- When Jesus was born in Bethlehem heaven's
joy rang loud and clear
Wisemen followed the shining star
to the child so dear
V2- With hunger in their hearts to
worship their new king, they carried
Three Little Gifts tucked carefully
among their things
Rise- Three Little Gifts
brought the wisemen to the Lord
gold frankincense and myrrh
Chorus- Gold was a gift fit for a king
Frankincense for a priest who'd pray and sing.
Myrrh's whispered breath
spoke of suffering and death.
gold frankincense and myrrh
Chorus- Gold was a gift fit for a King
Frankincense for a priest who'd pray and sing
Myrrh's whispered breath
spoke of suffering and death....
