I wrote this for a friend about her son who died in the military.

One dark and lonely day, Michael looked up toward the sky

A pathway straight to heaven he'd forgotten long ago

War came and Michael trained to strike past enemy lines
His Apache crashed and cut a path through tall thick pines
Metal merged with wood to leave his family a sign
The trees were gone, except for one, where a cross had formed

In his kit they found two bibles, and pictures of his children.
