Story Behind The Song
I don't even know where the idea for this song came from. It just struck me one day that a lot of people who appear to have common and uninteresting jobs really make those jobs into something wonderful, depending on how they view them. And this guy really loves Christmas!
Song Description
A hardworking, everyday trucker sees his job quite differently just before Christmas. He is Santa Claus's Helper, bringing toys for children up and down the east coast.

Lyrics
SANTA CLAUS'S HELPER
By Carlene Thissen, copyright 2012
VERSE 1
He's a hard-working, everyday trucker
With a wife, 2 kids, 3 dogs and 18 wheels
But there's a magical transformation
That comes in mid-December every year
From the grey skies to the sunshine
From the beaches and the palm trees to the snow
He pulls up to each loading dock
Hollering, "Merry Christmas, Ho, ho ho!"
CHORUS:
He's got antlers tied to the front grill
Decked with Jingle bells
The trailer's trimmed with blinkin' lights
And he's singing' Christmas carols
He'll double clutch, put the hammer down
And roll on out of sight
'Cause this hard working, everyday trucker
Is Santa Claus's helper tonight
VERSE 2:
He delivers a load to Detroit
Bicycles, toy drums and princess dolls,
then backhauls back to Memphis
with Barbies, baby blocks, 'n bouncing balls
Two familiar little voices
Say "Break 1-9, what's your 20, Daddy?"
He says, "Don't you worry good buddies
I'll be home just in time for Christmas Eve!"
CHORUS
BRIDGE:
The reason Santa needs him
Makes perfect sense indeed
(Instead of) 8 reindeer and a tiny sleigh
He's got 400 horses and a big rig!
CHORUS
