Story Behind The Song
I wrote this song after reading a Valentine's Day card from my Mom.
Song Description
A Mom is helping her son get packed to leave their home to go off to college. She can't believe this time has come. He grew up so fast. When he leaves, she is sad to be in an empty nest, but eventually she finds a new life, to try to fill the space that had been devoted to him. But even though he has left home, inside his heart will always be her hope.

Lyrics
He Left Her Home, But Not Her Heart
Words and Music by Timothy Reed
The tears were warm upon her cheek
She knew it was the final week
She helped him pack and wondered how
The years had flown from when he was a boy
To now
The week flew by and came the day
When her son would move away
The tears were streaming down their cheeks
Mom and son could barely speak
But finally he drove away
She watched him go, until she couldn't see
His face
He left her home, but not her heart
Their lives had changed, their love had not
The road he took was now his own
But deep inside his heart would always be
Her hope
When he was gone she had to re-define her life
She had an empty nest, and no desire to fly
She realized she'd lived for him
And thanked the Lord she'd learned to give
She dusted off her flying wings
And took a leap of faith
She'd find her own song to sing
He left her home, but not her heart
Their lives had changed, their love had not
The road he took was now his own
But deep inside his heart would always be
Her hope
