Story Behind The Song
This song is called Dhyana because it was played in one sitting, in a relaxed and focussed state (in Buddhism, Dhyana refers to meditation and being in a focussed and relaxed state of mind). It is also a tribute to country-blues Delta guitarists.
Song Description
A beautiful, soulful, earthy and relaxing acoustic blues instrumental played on a dobro. Evokes images of the American south/Delta, earthy landscapes. Even has tinges of world music. Completely unique yet highly traditional. Reflective, serene, organic, even haunting at times.
The first minute is traditional country/delta blues playing, while an innovative, heartfelt, melodic movement begins at around 1:10. The song returns to its delta roots by the end. We continue to sit on the porch and reflect on life.
