Story Behind The Song
I just wanted to write a dixieland tune and I zeroed in on New Orleans as the subject matter. This was written well before any hurricanes hit the city. It was recorded early in July.
Song Description
It's a dixieland tune in praise of the city of New Orleans. I imagine someone like Louis Armstrong singing and Al Hirt blowing the horn. In this time period, Harry Connick Jr. would be an ideal vocalist for it.

Lyrics
WHEN THE NIGHT HITS NEW ORLEANS
There's a Southern moon on its lazy rise.
Lots of fireflys are flashin' in your eyes.
You'll see things you ain't never seen,
when The Night Hits New Orleans.
There's a wise old owl hootin' to beware.
Keep your heart well-covered if you dare go there.
You'll fall hard for some Cajun queen,
when The Night Hits New Orleans.
The pouty red lips of any French Quarter miss
can set you all aflame with a sultry kiss.
The Mardi Gras life is just made for sin,
but you'll wanna be there when the saints march in.
There's nothin' else like it when the gumbo flows
while a Creole band plays some Zydeco.
Anything goes if your money's green,
when The Night Hits New Orleans.
Instrumental bridge...
The pouty red lips of any French Quarter miss
can set you all aflame with a sultry kiss.
The Mardi Gras life is just made for sin,
but you'll wanna be there when the saints march in.
There ain't nothin' else like it when the gumbo flows
while a Creole band plays some Zydeco.
Anything goes if your money's green,
when The Night Hits New Orleans.
When The Night.. Hits.. New.. Orleans.
