Story Behind The Song
Only country song I have ever written. Used a "compare and contrast" format to tell this story of a chap who is getting a beatdown from life but still feels lucky because he gets to see his gal later that day. I hope the lyrics are as clever as I think without being too "cute." I think my favorite line is "my life is Dom Perignon mixed with turpentine."

Lyrics
I got a letter today from the IRS
They want all of my money everything I guess
Got a call from my mechanic with bad news too
But later on tonight I'm gonna be with you
(chorus)
Luckiest man alive I'm the luckiest man alive
Might have to stick out my thumb and hitch me a ride but I'm the luckiest man alive
I spend all day long just a-breakin' my back and Everything I own fits in a paper sack
It's like a trail of misfortune with an ocean view
But later on tonight I'm gonna be with you
(chorus)
Luckiest...
Luckiest...
I got one eye on my troubles and one on the prize and I'm the luckiest man alive
(bridge)
Luckiest...
Luckiest...
My life is Dom Perignon mixed with turpentine
Still I'm the luckiest man alive
Well a hurricane blew across my path today
In a minute my life was all washed away
Insurance man says there's nothing he can do
But later on tonight I'm gonna be with you
(chorus)
Luckiest...
Luckiest...
Some folks would fall to pieces like Patsy Cline
But I'm the luckiest man alive
Luckiest man alive
Hey I'm the luckiest man alive
I found the whiskey river
But it just ran dry
Still I'm the luckiest man alive
