Story Behind The Song
An original transcription for synth orchestra based on three "ancient" Christmas melodies. The introduction is the medieval melody "Ihr lieben Hirten" (their dear shepherd), arranged for choir by Andreas Hammerschmidt (Bohemia, early 1600's). Then follows Bach's organ prelude "In dulci jublio" (1600's), a piece traditionally played at Christmas mass. It's from this Bach tune that we get the contemporary hymn "Good Christian Men Rejoice." The final movement is nearly note-for-note a transcription for three voices - a French variation on the melody "Joseph est bein marie" (also LATE 1600's, our interpretation based on an arrangement by Michel Richard De Lalande).
