Story Behind The Song
My father was a military man & would have us kids unlace his boots when he'd get home from work. I remember a number of occasions walking around with my small feet in those #10 1/2 boots. He often commented, "those are some big shoes to fill, son".

Lyrics
Big Shoes to Fill
When I was barely four-years-old I put on my daddy's shoes
Stumbled 'cross the living room & picked up quite a bruise
My daddy wiped my tears away & sat me on his knee
He said son these are the words my daddy often said to me
CHORUS
There are roads I'll help you build
There are fields I'll help you till
& someday if I've done it right a son of your own
Will have some big shoes to fill
This stubborn boy was seventeen when I set out on my own
Stumbled 'cross the Bible Belt into the great unknown
But every time I took a fall my daddy would be there
to pick me up & brush me off, his words became my prayer
CHORUS BRIDGE
Now a young boy of my own works on his ABCs
He runs around in untied shoes & scabs on both his knees
But as he grows & every step becomes a longer stride
I'll pass along the words his grandpa handed down with pride
CHORUS
