Story Behind The Song
lament of an ever so short romantic interlude in the wilds of northern california with an old flame, a lady i had fantasized about all through high school.
Song Description
the idea for this dreamy, lovesick song came to me during the winter of 1998/99. i decided to include it on my BEAUTY IN THE FEAST album, a compilation of my own songs produced and released under my indie label.

Lyrics
I reached for something untouchable tonight
But like cool water rippling in the moonlight,
My impossible dream is just a memory
Though I tried so hard to hold her,
It wasn't meant to be.
Beneath that velvet skin I touched for awhile,
Her moody currents flow for mile after mile
While I paddled my canoe, what else could I do,
Across that river to see my raven queen smile.
The wind is breathing, night birds are flyin'
Two hearts inside each other, there's no denyin'
I was blessed to know this moment,
It was only sixteen days, sixteen days and nights of heaven
We set the woods ablaze
She left me standing by this willow tree
Weeping until the dawn like some men do.
When I reflect upon the way she's come and gone,
It sure seems like a dream now that it's through
She caught a plane from Reno, destination midwest
Back to her lifestyle and the friends she likes the best
Now the woodsman sings his lonely song,
Breaks down now and then
It's not what he had bargained for
And there's no guarantee he'll ever see her again
