Clarion River (E. Wininger) ©?2017 Mestengo Music/BMI

I'd been driving all day on the interstate.
I was tired, I was hungry, it was getting kind of late.
So I took the next exit with the knife & fork sign
And headed to the center of town.
When I got to Main Street I walked up & down.
Nothing was open... a real ghost town.
Every store, every coffee shop, closed up tight.
There wasn't a soul in sight.
So I got back in the car & rolled on.
Then I discovered where the town had gone.

Everybody was down by the Clarion River
Jumpin' off the bridge by the "No Diving" sign.
They were down by the Clarion River.
Havin' a mighty good time.
Well the kids were in the water, the teens were on the rocks.
Folks were cooking on the grill, and fishin' off the docks.
Playin' cards, drinkin' beer, and shooting the breeze.
Some were tyin' up a rope swing in the trees.
Everybody was down by the Clarion River
Locked up the shop, flipped over the sign.
They were down by the Clarion River.
Havin' a mighty good time.
Someone saw my plates and waved a hello.
"Say you're not from around here, before you have to go
We've got plenty of food, so get out of your car
Come on over here & bring that guitar!"

So I joined them down by the Clarion River,
Picked a few tunes, shared a bottle of wine.
We were down by the Clarion River
Havin' a might good time.
Everybody was down by the Clarion River
Locked up the shop, flipped over the sign.
We were down by the Clarion River.
Havin' a mighty good time.
