Story Behind The Song
I inadvertently hurt the feelings of my darling wife and tried to mend the wound with a song. I banged it out on my old guitar and sang it for her. Still am unaware of what I did or said that caused grief but, whatever, it dismayed her. The song smoothed over at least some of the pain.
Many moons later, I showed it to my eighteen-year-old nephew who sat down at the piano and began playing my creation. I asked him to stop until I could record his efforts. My recording product lacks much, but his Barry Manilow rendition of the song is fantastic. Some folks are naturally gifted, and Philip was one. His family could not afford piano lessons, which he needed not, because he could hear a song and begin playing it. As he did with mine; no notes, just simple chord progression notation.

Lyrics
MY LOVE STAYS THE SAME
My love for you remains the same through sunshine, storms, the joy, the rain.
Though, I know... there are times I cause pain.
But, when I do, please recall my love stays the same.
Though Pain scars the heart;
sometimes tears us apart.
Each time, love goes on, survives the pain. Survives the pain...
my love stays the same.
The love I feel I cannot say.
So, I hold you; kiss the tears away.
For, I love you, and you know that I do....
And, I don't know what I'd do, if you went away.
Though Pain scars the heart;
sometimes tears us apart.
Each time, love goes on, survives the pain. Survives the pain...
my love stays the same.
My love stays the same.
My love stays the same.
