Story Behind The Song
The song lightly harkens back to youthful days when a young man's heart was crushed when dumped by his true love.
Song Description
An adult looking back at his youthful days and the devistating heartbreak at age nineteen. She ripped my heart out and stomped the sucker. Was devastating for well over a year though a Cajun friend told me repeatedly to "forget about it!" Much easier said than done. This story and others can be found in my book, "Dobie's River," which can be viewed and downloaded online at www.dobiesriver.com .

Lyrics
Nineteen
The world was so large; I was so lean.
Not a bone in my body was hateful or mean.
Didn't owe anybody; nobody owed me.
Was poor but happy, back when I was nineteen.
On campus, I was not your brightest light.
But I made my classes. Kept my studies up tight.
I loved the ladies with all my might,
and sometimes did in the still of the night.
CHORUS
That was back when I had not a clue
what the future held for me or for you.
Drifting along as if nothing did matter
'cept for love in my life and food on my platter.
Looking back in the past at my nineteen,
she was my love, my everything.
Was the prettiest girl I'd ever seen,
back then when I was only nineteen.
Well life rolled on, but she bailed out.
That pain, ya' know, I could have done without.
To keep on breathin', I had my doubts,
before I even knew what life was all about.
(Repeat Chorus)
Took quite a while for the wound to heal.
Friends told me it was not a big deal.
Suck it up they said, say not a word.
If seen on campus, just flip her the bird
(Repeat Chorus)
Yes, I drifted along as if nothing did matter
'cept for love in my life and food on my platter.
