Story Behind The Song
After many happy years in a job I was made redundant - strangely instead of feeling sad I felt a massive freedom to move on and try new things. I went to meet some old friends from work and felt 'alien' to their world - my old world - that now I could see from the outside.
Song Description
Looking back into my old life - how do people from that world see me now I'm no longer a part of it? I was happy there - but a sudden change closed that world to me and now I can't imagine how I fitted in there or why I don't mind leaving it all behind. Looking forward I have lots of choices and a chance to discover the real me.

Lyrics
Stepping back into a world that I once knew
So at home, so distant
Old friends but there's a lens I'm looking through
So same, so different
How do they see me now I wonder?
It's just a passing thought
I can smile at the history now
You know it really doesn't matter at all
Now I'm free, so free
Free, oh so free.
With just a word so many happy days
Were all shut behind me
But I'd played the part, I'd kept the pace
Did that define me?
Was she for real or just pretend?
It's even hard for me to know.
And how come with such a sudden end
It really doesn't hurt to let it go
Now I'm free, so free
Free, oh so free.
Free as a child when that last school bell rings
Free to follow my future, and whatever it brings.
Looking forward there's an empty page,
Which path to follow?
Which part of me is going to take the centre stage?
Who will I be tomorrow?
Gonna take my time, it feels so strange
Free to choose my own objective.
I never thought it would take this change
To put my world into perspective
Now I'm free, so free
Free, oh so free
So free.
