Story Behind The Song

This boy Matthew was wonderful but not good for me, so I tried not to love him. Never told him how I felt, and he died.

Song Description

The subject of this very sad song had a heart condition, so his heart was literally broken, and it gave him this sadness, but he also had this kindness that came very naturally. I loved him for it but I was trying to not drink and consistently go to bed at a decent hour, so I tried not to love him and never told him I did. When he died I was absolutely crushed and don't know if I'll ever really get over it.

Lyrics

My heart breaks for his broken heart
Cause he doesn't see what I see
He makes me a better me
So I've set him apart

Well I tried not to love him
But he was just so kind
And I knew it'd be a struggle to
Keep him off my mind

Knew that he was no good for me
So I had to let him go
But loving him from afar healed my hearts scars
And I never let him know
I never let him know

My heart breaks for his broken heart
Cause he doesn't see what I see
He makes me a better me
So I've set him apart

When I heard what happened
I nearly fainted of regret
But 8 long days went by til we said good-bye
To an angel we'll never forget
I never will forget

How my heart breaks
For his broken heart
Cause he didn't see what I see
He made me a better me
So I've set him apart
And it tears me apart
