Story Behind The Song
I wrote the verses at an inn in the Berkshires which my wife and I go each summer for several days. The lyrics to the verses are a fairly accurate description of our experiences and feelings while away.
I wrote the chorus however at a friends wedding, on the back of the wedding program while they recited their vows.
Later I combined the verses and chorus into one song.
I have won several awards for this song. Recently a small record label asked me to record it, via a non-exclusive agreement, for a compilation CD of emerging artists. The CD was released on Nov. 2, 2010.
Song Description
Married couple is on porch of inn, reading books, sharing looks and wine, waiting for sunset. Then they sit by fireplace and embrace. She rests her head on his shoulder as the embers die. He says that they will grow older together and asks "Darlin' won't you spend your life with me?"
He plays guitar and writes songs, the innkeepers sing along. They wait for the evening breeze. She rests her head on his shoulder as the embers die. He says that they will grow older together and asks "Darlin' won't you spend your life with me?"
Chorus reflects on their being together forever, through bad and good times.
He says that it is bedtime and thinks of things he should have told her, but realizes that words are not important as long as she wears his wedding ring. She rests her head on his shoulder as the embers die. He says that they will grow older together and asks "Darlin' won't you spend your life with me?"
Chorus reflects on their being together forever, through bad and good times.

Lyrics
TOGETHER, FOREVER (DARLIN' WON'T YOU SPEND YOUR LIFE WITH ME)

LYRIC SHEET
WE'RE ON THE PORCH READING BOOKS,
EXCHANGING LOOKS LIKE WE WERE YOUNG AGAIN.
WE SHARE A GLASS OF WHITE WINE,
WE'RE PASSING TIME, WAITIN' FOR THE SETTING SUN, THEN
WE'LL SIT BY THE FIREPLACE,
FEEL EACH OTHER'S WARM EMBRACE,
THERE AIN'T NO OTHER PLACE,
I'D RATHER BE.
REST YOUR HEAD UPON MY SHOULDER,
THE EMBERS DIE AS IT GETS COLDER,
YOU AND I WE'LL GROW OLDER,
I AIN'T TOO BLIND TO SEE.
DARLIN' WON'T YOU SPEND YOUR LIFE WITH ME?
PLAYING GUITAR WRITING SONGS,
THE KEEPERS OF THE INN THEY SING ALONG.
WE'RE WAITING FOR THE EVENING BREEZE,
THE WINDS WILL WHISPER THEY'LL WHISPER THE HARMONIES, SO
REST YOUR HEAD UPON MY SHOULDER,
THE EMBERS DIE AS IT GETS COLDER,
YOU AND I WE'LL GROW OLDER,
I AIN'T TOO BLIND TO SEE.
DARLIN' WON'T YOU SPEND YOUR LIFE WITH ME?
TOGETHER, FOREVER,
FOR WORSE, FOR BETTER,
THROUGH SUNNY SKIES,
AND STORMY WEATHER.
TOGETHER, FOREVER,
FOR WORSE, FOR BETTER,
THROUGH SUNNY SKIES,
AND STORMY WEATHER.
AND NOW IT'S TIME TO GO TO BED,
I THINK OF THE THINGS I I SHOULD HAVE SAID.
BUT WORDS THEY DON'T MEAN A THING,
AS LONG AS YOU WEAR YOU WEAR MY WEDDING RING, AND
REST YOUR HEAD UPON MY SHOULDER,
THE EMBERS DIE AS IT GETS COLDER,
YOU AND I WE'LL GROW OLDER,
I AIN'T TOO BLIND TO SEE.
DARLIN' WON'T YOU SPEND YOUR LIFE WITH ME?
TOGETHER, FOREVER,
FOR WORSE, FOR BETTER,
THROUGH SUNNY SKIES,
AND STORMY WEATHER.
TOGETHER, FOREVER,
FOR WORSE, FOR BETTER,
THROUGH SUNNY SKIES,
AND STORMY WEATHER.
