Lazy Afternoons

Story Behind The Song

I was working on this beat when the lyrics for the hook just popped in my head. I wrote the lyrics as I was making the beat and recorded a rough reference. My hard drive crashed and I had to go back and remake the beat from scratch. I feel like the song has a triumphant ending for my album.

Song Description

The song begins with a guy talking about his lost love and how things just feel strange without her. He begins to find himself lamenting and tries to focus on the positives of being out of a toxic relationship. Musically the song is very electronic with acoustic drums. The bassline is a very raspy synthesizer and it is complemented by an arpeggiated synthesizer as well as acoustic brass. The song keeps the same feel for most of the song then has a key change right before the third verse that remains in that key for the rest of the song.

Lyrics

"Lazy Afternoons"

Hook
It's just those lazy afternoons,
You know those days that's made for two,
And though my heart can't take the truth,
That there's a part of it with you,
That ain't never coming back to me,

Verse 1
My good morning,
Just happened at 11:57,
I'm yawning, stretching for the heavens,
Confused, disoriented,
I almost called her,
Waking up cold, wondering where she is,
A vulture,
Picking up the pieces of this dead,
Relationship,
I don't wanna,
Be that guy that's stuck on his ex,
Stuck on the sex, stuck on the cutchie,
Stuck on the head, now I'm stuck,
What to do?
And I'm wondering,
How many days until she's out of my mind,
Cause I'm wanting,
To go,

Hook
It's just those lazy afternoons,
You know those days that's made for two,
And though my heart can't take the truth,
That there's a part of it with you,
That ain't never coming back to me,

Verse 2
How are ya?
As I turn to nobody there,
Sayonara,
Goodbye to my sugar pie,
Sit and think for a while,
Tomorrow,
I'mma get up, sit up,
Run, jump,
And take the day by the balls,
Go harder,
Than all these motherfuckers out here where I belong,
I don't need her,
Why throw anchors when I wanna move forward,
Full speed ahead,
And I'm full on course,
Fully prepared for whatever,
So I'm cool,
And I'm all of,
The things that you said I wouldn't be,
So I,
Would call ya, (well I know I shouldn't but)

Hook
It's just those lazy afternoons,
You know those days that's made for two,
And though my heart can't take the truth,
That there's a part of it with you,
That ain't never coming back to me,
That ain't never coming back to me,
That ain't never coming back to me,
To me, to me,

Bridge
I know that I'm better off now when I think about you leaving,
And it sounds so much better out loud,
When I say I'm on my own,
Cause all I know,
Is that I'm cool,
Its tickets for one,
No more dinners for two,
I'm all I need,
And I'm so free,
And I won't be lonely,

Hook
It's just those lazy afternoons,
You know those days that's made for two,
And though my heart can't take the truth,
That there's a part of it with you,
That ain't never coming back to me,
