Story Behind The Song

One night I was sleeping and I had a dream about the end of the world. I woke up with the idea of "the last race around the sun" or simply put how things would be if we knew the world was ending on a set date. Would we act out and panic or act civilized and make the absolute best of what we've been given. The song reflects that struggle in looking at ones own mortality. When composing the beat, I started with a very slow tempo drum beat and added some pianos and an ambient pad in an emotional sounding chord progression. Jason (the co-producer) came in and added guitars, bass, and strings to make a bigger sound. The song continued to evolve as I put the idea down into lyrics.

Song Description

The Last Race is about someone who is explaining to a friend who is having a swell of anger in the heat of passion that there's more to life than this moment. If you know you only have a limited amount of time on this planet, why not make the best of it. The song itself progresses from a simple slow tempo drum beat in the beginning to a mixture of pads, electric guitars and bass. And as the song progresses the instrumentation becomes bigger sounding with orchestral strings all culminating in a B Section that speeds the tempo up and brings the energy level higher.
