Song Description
This intense, repetitive, instrumental piece produced and composed by me, The Tempest, represents the fear and apprehension carried upon coming out as queer. The repetition encompasses history repeating itself yet steadily changing in oppressive narratives imposed upon the queer community, and the forte dynamics throughout the piece represent the pent-up rage many feel as a result over which they are tone-policed for expressing overtly. In 2022, anti-trans legislation has increased by 800% in the United States, 40% of the US homeless population comprises queer youth, 45% of queer youths have pondered suicide in 2022, and anti-trans and anti-gay violence are at an all-time high globally. 2021 was recorded as the deadliest year for trans and nonbinary folks and there are a reported 32 cases of fatal anti-trans violence victims over the course of 2022. We, as a community, are collectively tired of those that oppose our right to life killing our people off systemically, and instead of rightfully screaming, kicking, and rioting, I chose music to express my impending rage and to cope with my mourning.
