Story Behind The Song
This is my story, but it's could very well be the story of others. When a new friend, who happens to be a songwriter, came back to Birmingham recently, telling tales about his tenure in L.A., it brought back a rush of memory for me of my years there.

Lyrics
THE SUN'S ON ME copyright 2006 by james aycock, ken talley, roger phillips and ron bourdages
(verse 1)
drove in from l.a.
cross the bama line
2:15
central standard time
called mom this mornin'
from the shreveport inn
she'll be home from work
'bout the time that i pull in
feel like i've been rode hard
and put up wet
tinsel town can wear you down
but there's some life left in me yet
(chorus)
and
i've been caught out in the rain
battered by the wind
up and down with the times, my friend
but i'm comin' home again
where the love light shines
and i can see
the sun's on me
(verse 2)
gonna wash the road off
hang with my friends
tell em' some tales
'bout the places I have been been
lady luck's been smilin'
but she can turn you around
one missed step
and you're world's turned upside down
"don't forget where you came from"
my daddy'd say
"we'll be here with arms wide
if the others turn away"
(chorus)
and
i've been caught out in the rain;
battered by the wind;
up and down with the times, my friend
but i'm comin' home again
where the love light shines
and i can see
the suns on me
(bridge)
even when it's cold
and it's the dark night of the soul
the clouds are rollin' away
and the sun shines bright with the light
light of a new day
(verse 3)
(instrumental break )
i guess they tried to shape my into someone else
but i wouldn't be standin' here
if I didn't know myself
and
i've been caught out in the rain;
battered by the wind;
up and down with the times, my friend
but i'm comin' home again
where the love light shines
and i can see
a few more miles
and i'll be free
here i am
so let me be
where the sun's on me
where the sun's on me
