Story Behind The Song

I used this line twice before I finally realized it was a song waiting for me to write. The first time was in a letter to our church in Peoria in April ?98, the second time at my wife Denise?s funeral in Palos Park on Oct. 3, 2000. It is intended to be a complimentary extension to the original "Footprints" poem.

an extension of the well known Footprints in the Sand poem that expands it to iunclude all the people who've helped us along the way

The other night after I went to bed
This vision seemed to pop into my head
Walking on the beach I saw the story of my life
The happiness and joy, the struggle and the strife

Now I expected to see prints in the sand
With only one set when I couldn?t stand
Up to the trials and the tribulations
The sorrows, defeats, and expectations

But the sand on the beach was all churned up
So where?s the footprints that should have turned up?
I said, "Lord, tell me how we reached this place,
When looking behind there?s no trace?"

So the Lord just smiled and showed me his hands
And said, "With these I can achieve any plan.
But, my reach is extended so much more
By a community of faith from shore to shore.
