it started with the one word concept for what those shepherds, considered a very lowly and unclean occupation in it's day, must have felt like after a giant choir of angels showed up. And the word was joy.

a bunch of shepherds making a joyful noise after being visited by an angel chorus on Christmas night. The fact that these lowly guys were first in getting this news was intentional and a sign of the shepherd to follow.
