Story Behind The Song
I've known my share of incredibly cynical people. Maybe I'm just too sensitive to my surroundings, but after a while I start heading down that road. I wrote this as a warning to myself.
Song Description
Key line.
"Is today the day that I give up?"
Key concept.
The beauty of cynicism is that it removes all blame for shortcomings and responsibility for improvement from the cynic. "They" are the reason things are screwed up around here. "I tried once, but nobody would listen..."
Most of us keep trying for decades. Every morning IS a fresh start. Don't give in.

Lyrics
Rampant cynics all around, tell me to come on down
Trade for what's behind curtain 2
A year's supply of balls to drop, an alarm clock that just won't stop
Oh, I'm disappointed again
CHORUS
(And) is today the day that I give up? Is today the day that I give in?
Decide the cost of war's too high, even if we finally win
Is today the day that I give in?
My leaves have all turned brown, fallen, scattered on the ground
Yeah, I'm standing naked in the wind
But I tell you I've got deep roots, come summer I start bearing fruit
Best I can tell, the world is still round
CHORUS
Should I go quietly to the night, accept my fate without a fight?
Embrace the cynic's life for relief
Decide that life is way too tough, to deal with honesty and trust
Beat me, join 'em, now it's payback time?
CHORUS
