There's a sign on the door but you read too fast to be sure

you don't know that the words are all for you

And the door is open but you pass by on the way in a hurry to the job that only you can do



And the days fly fast when you think you're on the path and fighting to be all that you can be

And the nights are brief there's no love that you can keep

when you've spent thirty years sound asleep



And you dream you're alive doing 9-5 every day but you didn't really know no other way to survive

and the nights are long when you've covered up your song with your thoughts

but you never knew another way of life , you were bought



it's a long slow haul with your chain and ball, like a rock trying to swim upstream

And thoughts come slow and you don't know where you've been

when you've spent 50 years in a dream


And loves all around but you're looking at the ground as you pass,

now you're noticing that nothing here can last, and it's along long way back to better days

when so much of your life is in the past, and the joys come slow few and far between

when you've spent 80 years in a dream


And your last breath calls and you laugh at it all as you go, why it seemed like such a great big

deal you don't know, you take your last long ride into endless light and you let your laughter lift you

to the sky or so it seems, and the day turns bright into warm sunlight,

as you wake from 80 years in a dream, as you wake from 80 years in a dream.
